### _a room that i take care of_ is a responsive installation that is composed yet cultivated for its uncertainties – a balance between automation and something looked after. It is an environmental reduction that emphasizes the rhythmic and patterned structure of observable phenomena to seek out shared qualities between the natural and built world. This is demonstrated through the actuation of kinetic sculptures that find influence in various environmental systems, such as the stridulatory mechanisms of sound-producing insects, elements of infrastructure, and patterns of wind.

### The work emphasizes the self-balancing properties of natural systems as a critical response to society’s existing state of systematic complexity. In a time where full power over nature has been attained, rather than pressing forward, the work expresses a systems-based approach that is less about control and more about coexistence through balanced and shared relations. Such issues of complexity are examined through wistfully rethinking the relationship between the natural and human-made, promoting stability among built structures and non-human agents, as well as their shared surroundings.

### Artificial Ecologies is a virtual exhibition: it is both an architectural space and thematic grouping of the artworks of Isabel Beavers, Maru Garcia, Richelle Gribble, and Julian Stein. The space embodies systems of ecology that shift in scale and relate through macro/micro relationships.

### [Sounding Out Spaces](https://www.pariesa.com/single-post/garden-ecologies) is a site-responsive sonic art project that explores ecosystemic relationships between people, sounds and spaces. The project, which was started by sound artist and Arizona State University professor Lauren Hayes in 2014, involves musical and technical approaches for artistically responding to and participating in a given site. These sites have included buildings and spaces that have not been designated as concert venues, as well as outdoor urban and rural settings, and they range from retired industrial structures, visually stimulating landscapes, architecture with unique acoustic properties, natural environments, or places of cultural or historical significance.

### Time Lenses is an installation of multiple displays and cameras that are carefully placed in a physical location to refract activity into a suite of rhythmically recomposed movements. Live video processing instruments will augment the space so that any activity, rehearsed or unrehearsed, quotidian or marked, will refract into a suite of projections, each revealing a different temporal or rhythmic aspect of the corporeal activity within the space. An activity in the space will appear on these life-size installations that act as temporal lenses or temporal mirrors. As a set, these time lenses explode captured movements into constituent rhythms and display them "contrapuntally" on the image surfaces arrayed in the space.

“The interactive and immersive installation Turcot: la route devenue architecture offers a tour of an interchange from the point of view of a pedestrian or cyclist. The Satosphere’s spherical projection sweeps visitors into the heart of this gigantic work by offering a perceptual experience on human scale. Visitors can transform the interchange in real time, changing its structure and the journey, by manipulating a wooden model placed, like a construction game, at the centre of the dome. They create another architecture, one that is dynamic and unstable, altering the idea we have of the structure and its final form.”

### _Einstein’s Dreams_ is an environment in which visitors encounter installations with responsive fields of video, light, and spatialized sound, in a set of tableaus. Each tableau is inspired by a vignette from Alan Lightman’s novel, _Einstein’s Dreams_. Performers work with the textures and rhythms of lighting, sound and visitors’ expectations to create different kinds of time poetically related to the novel’s vignette.

Einstein's Dreams


### Invisible Lines explores the artistic potential of controlled feedback, and subsequently, the ability to compose temporal structures with microphone feedback as primary material. Six iconic SM58 microphones are coupled with six extracted speaker cones. Functioning as elementary components in both sound reinforcement systems and the history of sound art, the relationship between each microphone/speaker pair becomes audible. The six audible feedback loops are controlled by custom software which oscillates between states of stability and instability, resulting in a self-regulating and self-balancing system.

### Invisible Lines was awarded the 2014 Edith-Russ-Haus Award for Emerging Media Artists.

### [Music for Lamps](https://www.musicforlamps.com) is an installation and performance work for 12 sound and light emitting lamps. Each lamp is discreetly outfitted with a surface transducer speaker, turning the lamps into both light and sound emitters. The lamps are arranged to both surround and permeate audience members, creating a 12 channel light and 14 channel sound performance.

### This work explores the continuum between the abstract qualities of sound and light, and the evocative qualities of domestic objects. Re-animated through digital technology, the lamps’ every “performance” is pulled apart and recombined in a novel manner. In this sense, Music for Lamps investigates both the potential of domestic objects, recalling their everyday functions and - through aesthetic transformation - transcending them.
